N E W P R O D U C T ! ! ! ! "Kilauea" (pronounced "Kee-low-ay-ah") is a active volcano located on the island of Hawaii - more commonly referred to as the "Big Island." The name Kilauea means "spewing" or "much spreading," which refers to the lava flows that the volcano erupts. The current eruption of Kilauea has persisted since 1983, leading many to believe it may be the most active volcano in the world. The ancient Hawaiians Kilauea believed to be the home of Pele, the goddess of Hawaiian volcanoes. Much superstition surrounds Pele and her angry temperament. One of the most widely believed superstitions - shared not only by the Hawaiian people - concerns removing solidified lava rock left in the wake of Kilauea's constant eruption, and spread throughout much of the Big Island. For this reason we do not use any real Hawaiian lava rock in our pieces. Our Hawaiian Indoor Fountain, "Kilauea" combines all the elements of the world's most active volcano - albeit in a much smaller and safer scale. The ceramic bowl has a look like real lava rock, and measures approximately 12" in diameter by 5" high. The pump sits within the bowl's center and is protected by a solid plastic cylinder, which also serves as a support system for the "volcano" itself. We use a custom cut and shaped piece of natural slate to level the center rock and hide the plastic cylinder. It also adds some elevation above the water line to help create the tranquil fountain sound. Atop the slate is the centerpiece volcano rock, which is made from feather rock* - a real volcanic rock mostly found in the southwestern United States - and is cut and shaped to resemble the cone of the volcano. The bowl is filled with smooth black river rocks, resembling the smooth cooled sheets of lava on the delta where Kilauea's lava flow seeps into the ocean. We also offer you the added the option of the complete Kilauea experience by simulating the element of the erupting volcano. To do this, we have integrated a fountain mister (also known as a fogger or ionizer), which gives a dry ice effect over the water's surface. And to simulate color of lava the mister Kilauea has a red and orange LED lighting system. This device is separately powered, so it can be turned off, if you like. It is offered as an addition to our basic fountain at a different price (listed below). Much more advanced than a Science Fair volcano, and without the mess, you're sure to enjoy this beautiful handmade tropical tabletop fountain.
